Bag Full of Diamonds

August 22, 2011
By Chuck Hartman of Sibley East Football

A man was stranded in the desert with nothing around for miles and miles.  One time in the night he heard a voice tell him to walk 4 miles to the east and he would find an oasis full of water, nuts, and berries.  The man was sure he was delerious but he figured it was his only hope for survival so he started walking.  As he walked he heard another voice tell him that when he got to the oasis he should fill his bag with as many large rocks and stones as he could.  Again he thought for sure this time he was imaginging things.  When he got to the oasis everything was a promised.  He began to gulp the water and eat the food.  Then he remembered that voice telling him to pick up the stones.  He wondered what for, and still sat there eating the food and drinking the water.  Then nightfall came and he settled in for a good night's rest.  Before he went to sleep he again remembered the voice telling him to gather rocks and stones.  So right before he fell asleep he  gathers two small rocks into his bag.  The man slept, and in the morning he awoke.  When he looked in his bag the rocks were gone.  They had transformed into diamonds.

The MORALE of the story is listen to the advice of those who have gone before you.  Sometimes the advice an adult or person with more experience gives you may seem like a "rock" to you at the time, but down the road in life it turns out to be invaluable like a diamond.
