Home » Football NewsTC Footballers Add ProtectionAugust 23, 2012 By Doug Seagrave of Triton Central High School
Coach Gabe Johnson and his staff are well aware of the dangers of multiple concussions from collisions on the football field. They have added an innovative new product to the players everyday practice gear in an attempt to reduce the impact to the head. The Guardian Cap is a one-size-fits-all shell worn over helmets during practice. The soft protector straps over a helmet and is designed to absorb helmet to helmet impact. Studies at Penn State and Wayne State Universities showed up to a 33% reduction in impact to the head. The guardian only weighs about 1/3 pound. The Caps attach easily to the helmet and are easily removed. They do not prevent concussions but can reduce impact and the possibility of injuries. Coach Johnson will monitor the effectiveness of the product in a further attempt to protect our most valuable assets, our student-athletes.
