Football Team has hands full with #2 Linden

LINDEN -- Linden made a triumphant return to Linden Athletic Field, beating St. Luke's 34-14 on Friday night.

Marquis Shelton ran 16 times for 140 yards asnd toucdhown runs of 8 and 7 yards, and Jamal Lewis added 118 yards and a 7-yard touchdown run for the No. 2-ranked Patriots (3-0 overall, 2-0 in Class 1A Region 1).

Jalen Lewis opened the scoring with a 29-yard pass from Anthony Robinson, and Robinson added a 2-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Linden, which played all of its home games at Marengo High in Dixons Mills last season, scored the game's first 34 points.

St. Luke's quarterback Drew Favors threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Dalton Becker, and Favors scored on a 1-yard run -- both in the fourth quarter.

George Payne added 138 yards on 16 carries for St. Luke's, and Favors finished 15-of-23 passing for 141 yards
