Home » Girls' Tennis NewsVegas leads Gryphons to girls' tennis win past KnightsSeptember 22, 2011 Rocky Mount High School

(Las) Vegas brings to mind gambling and going for broke, but when the Rocky Mount High girls’ tennis team switches their strategy to “Vegas”, it means the complete opposite.
With his No. 3 player just two points from losing the first set of what was a marathon match, Gryphons coach Barry Nethercutt instructed Mackenzie Warner to “Vegas.” Warner lobbed everything her opponent, Isabel Marrero, hit at her. It made for a two-hour match where there were not a lot of winners, but the safe approach worked. Marrero made more mistakes than Warner hit winners, and Rocky Mount beat rival Northern Nash, 8-1, in the process Tuesday afternoon at Sunset Park. To read this entire article, read here!
