Carver’s senior quarterback Jeremy Johnson riddled Prattville’s young secondary for 388 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for 91 more yards as the Wolverines ran past the Lions with 634 yards in total offense Friday night August 31 in Stanley-Jensen Stadium. The Wolverines defeated the Lions, 49-24, and it could have been more, but Carver’s coach Billy Gresham called off the dogs in the second half, after taking a 49-21 lead midway of the third quarter Johnson regarded by the four recruiting services as a 4-star quarterback (Scout, Rivals, ESPN & 247Sports) lived up to his high accolades with his outstanding performance. Johnson is a verbal commitment to Auburn University. The Tigers now have the two top rated high school quarterbacks in Alabama with verbal commitments. McGill-Toolen’s Jason Smith is also a verbal commitment. The battle between the Lions and the Wolverines was an offensive show as the Lions rushed for over 300 yards and added 102 yards in passing, giving the 9,500 fans a total offensive show between the two teams of 1,119 yards. It took 3 hours and 35 minutes to play the game, and most fans stayed till the end, certainly all the Wolverines fans who filled the 2,500 seats on the visitors side 45 minutes prior to kickoff. With the victory Carver established its legitimate claim to be a force in the Southern portion of Alabama with an opportunity to make it to Jordan-Hare Stadium December 8th for the state Class 6A title. Prattville suffered its first loss to a Montgomery school since November 29, 2002 when Jeff Davis defeated Prattville in the semifinal rounds of the state playoffs. It was the first regular season loss since October 20, 2000 when Sidney Lanier won 22-20. The Lions do not play the other Montgomery schools this year. They will not play Sidney Lanier, Robert E. Lee or Jeff Davis in 2013 due to the current re-alignment of the Class 6A schools in Central Alabama. The Lions will play Carver next fall traveling to Cramton Bowl on Friday night August 30. It was not all sad and gloom for the Lions. Kalen Whitlow threw for 102 yards and rushed for 91 yards on 17 trips. Kamryn Pettway rushed for 169 yards on 12 carries. The team had 323 yadrs rushing and 102 passing, Not a bad day on offense. Carver wasted little time in making their statement taking the opening kickoff and driving 80-yards for a quick touchdown. It took the Wolverines only one minute and 42 seconds to take an 8-0 lead. Johnson hit Landy Capetilo with a 14-yard TD strike and then adding two points. It was 15-0 after the Wolverine’s second possession as Johnson found Draequon Murphy all along in the Lions secondary from 21-yards out with 7:06 left in the first quarter. THE SCORING AFTERWARDS –
