BOOSTER CLUB BANQUET

The Midway Athletics Booster Club hosted its annual end of the year banquet at theCommunity CenterofHarrisonvilleon Wednesday May 16. Well over two hundred athletes, coaches, parents, and friends attended the event. Booster Club officers and members coordinated the banquet.

 

The cheerleading awards were presented by cheerleading sponsor Mary Cromer. Sophomore Skyler French received the football cheerleading leadership award. Senior Kayla Johnston received the basketball cheerleading leadership award.

 

Midway principal Doug Dahman presented the volleyball awards. Senior Kayla Johnson received the team first award. Senior Cathleen DeRemer received the heart award, and senior Alyson Chapman received the perseverance award.

 

Coach Larry Burchett presented the football awards. Seniors Tyler Yahnig and Taylor Ayres were named co-captains. Senior Tyler Yahnig and sophomore Bobby Zielinski received the co-most valuable player awards. Senior Adam Doyle received the hustle award.

 

The cross country awards were presented by Coach Doug Carder. Senior Mackenzie Weis received the girl’s number one runner award, and freshman Conor Hayes received the boy’s number one runner award. Junior Caitlin Chaffin received the team first award, freshman Dee Stark and junior Bailey Scholl received most improved runner awards.

 

CoachChadDean presented the girls’ basketball awards. Sophomore Jodi Rhodes received the hustle award. Freshman Emily Aksamit received the free throw percentage award. The assist award went to junior Cady Wright.  The rebounding award went to junior Kathleen Yoakum.

 

The boys’ basketball awards were presented by Coach Brett Burchett. Seniors Taylor Ayres and Bryan Fregeau were named co-captains. Sophomore Peyton Semsch received the rebounding award. Bryan Fregeau received the free throw percentage award and the award for the most assists. Taylor Ayres was named most valuable player.

 

Coach Bryan Stahl presented the boys’ track & field awards. Junior Dylan Wise was the male point’s award winner for track events, and sophomore Joey Beller was the male point’s award winner for field events. The boys’ team first award went to senior Paul Stark

 

Coach Bryan Stahl presented the girls’ track & field awards. Senior Josie Riggs received the award for the most points scored by a female track athlete. Senior Hannah Mills received the award for the most points scored by a female athlete in field events. Sophomore Jessica Owens received the girls’ team first award.

 

The MSHSAA Good Sport Awards went to juniors Gabby Smith and Christopher Bynum.

 

Seniors Josie Riggs, Cathleen DeRemer, Taylor Ayres, Bryan Fregeau, Tyler Machal, and Paul Stark received Cass Midway’s highest honor in athletics, the Viking 24/7 Award in honor of their participation in three sports per year all four years of his high school career.

 

Each senior and was presented a gift card from the Booster Club.

 

The evening ended as coach and athletics director Doug Carder received a gift card, plaque, and hand-made quilt from the Booster Club in honor of his retirement from theMidwaySchool Districtafter twenty-six years of service.
