Home » Football NewsKennedy 70-25September 10, 2012 By Brian Vossen of Lakeville North FootballBecause of the new class change 6A Lakeville North played it's first 5A opponent last Friday. Before the game it was made clear that we aren't just representing Lakeville North in this game, we are representing 6A football. If we want to be included in the 6A conversation then these are games we have to win.
North kicked off and started the game on defense. It was clear right away that the Panther D was going to put pressure on the young QB from Bloomington. A quick 3 and out got the offense on the field with solid field position. Even quicker the Panthers found the endzone on a 12 yard pass from Creighton to Blake. Hunter Cobb at a point with his first of 7 extra points.
The Defense returned to the field after the kick made it's way into the endzone. Grant Erickson intercepted a screen pass and bolted into the endzone to add another quick score for the Panthers. North Kicked off again, and once again earned a quick stop. Offense came onto the field and got their 2nd offensive TD of the game on a short carry to RB Jamiah Newell. With the Panthers up 21-0, the defense took the field and continued applying pressure to the Eagle offense. This time the Panther Defense would take advantage of the 4th down opportunity and set a 48 yard punt return to Brandon Morgan. This was Morgan's 2nd special teams TD in just 2 games. Panther D once again stopped the Eagles, but before the coaching staff could congratulate the defensive effort Creighton and Morgan hooked up on a 52 yard TD pass to extend the first quarter score to 35-0.
Recognizing the situation unfolding in front of them, the Panther coaching staff used this as an opportunity to get reps for some less experienced players. This gave Sr. Nick Valentini a chance to show his speed rushing for 2 48 yard TD's. Zach Creighton found the end-zone after a 56-yard scramble. Other highlights included a huge hit delivered by Chris Peterson that led to a Kelvin Hannasch interception. Austin Scarsella took off on a dazzling 58 yard run for a TD where he displayed some unknown moves that impressed his teammates.
All in all it was an exciting night to be a Panther. They finished the game with a 70-25 victory and built the required momentum to take on the physical and aggressive Eastview Lightning next week.
Next week's game time is Friday Sept. 14th at 7pm at Eastview High School
