Northern Kentucky University Heads To San Diego
August 31, 2012KentuckySports.co
While this is neither a Kentucky nor Louisville post, I have to give a shout (and some overdue respect) to my university and soon Alma Mater.
In case you have not heard, Northern Kentucky University recently has made the jump to Division I athletics, playing in the Atlantic Sun Conference--and this student couldn't be any prouder of my school.
Since the jump to division one, the NKU has more than just held their own in sports. The volleyball team is currently 5-0 after a victory Friday over Morehead St. The soccer team has played well, and there has been a general buzz around the campus about the success of all the sports.
Today, I am proud to say that the Norse have released a little bit of their schedule for the men's basketball team. The Norse will be traveling out west to San Diego to play in a tournament that will feature schools such as: San Diego, Tulsa, Siena and Cal St. Northridge.
Head coach, Dave Bezold told NKU's athletics website, " The tournament in San Diego will be a big-time test because we have to play four games in five days, and the teams involved are going to be very good"
This is the first time since the 1995-96 season NKU has traveled out West to play teams. The last time NKU has faced a Division I opponent in the regular season, was BYU in 2010 (NKU lost 65-46).
Here is what the tournament will look like (courtesy of the NKU athletics page):
