Dogs Take Two District Titles

Both the boys and the girls cross country teams repeated as Class 3, District 8 champions Saturday at Platte Ridge Park near Platte City.

For the girls, this is the sixth consecutive district title. Kearney placed all seven runners in the top 17 to finish with 42 points. Smithville placed second with 61.

Freshman Olivia Franklin led the charge and came home as the overall champion in the girls race. Franklin toured the course in 19 minutes, 13 seconds.

Senior Jasmine Edwards finished third to earn her fourth all-district honor. Edwards finished with a 19:55.

Sophomore Maiya Wolpert (11th), freshman Holli Adams (13th), and senior Michaela Altvater (14th) also earned all-district honors by finishing in the top 15.

Sophomore Laini Brown and junior Jessica Breyfogle finished 16th and 17th respectively.

The boys team also placed five runners in the top 15 on the way to 46 points. Smithville took second with 65.

Senior Connor Stark took second with a time of 16:58. Senior Adam Lappe took fifth in 17:18.

Sophomore Sam Oxandale made it three Bulldogs in the top 10 with a 10th place finish.

Seniors Max Bowers and Chris Leo rounded out the Dogs' all-district runners by finishing 14th and 15th respectively.

Junior Aaron Stephens took 16th, and senior Louis Hill took 23rd.

Both the boys and girls run Saturday in the Class 3 state meet in Jefferson City. The girls run at 11:30, and the boys race at 12:35.
