DEARBORN, Mich. - The Indiana University East volleyball team took first place at
the University of Michigan-Dearborn Earlybird Collegiate Challenge on the strength
of two wins Aug. 25.
The 25th-ranked Red Wolves (8-0) beat the University of Northwestern Ohio and Spring
Arbor University to complete the two-day, 19-team event with a 4-0 record.
Senior setter Lauren Crump (Indianapolis, Ind./Scecina Memorial High School)
represented the Red Wolves on the all-tournament team.
"Last year at this tournament, we just left. This year, we left with some hardware,"
said IU East coach Charlie Brown.
The Red Wolves' win against Spring Arbor was the 150th win in the program's NAIA
history. IU East is now 150-45 in five-plus NAIA seasons.
"We've been very blessed to have talented girls, and girls pushing so hard to win in
every match," Brown said.
IU East set the tone for the two wins with impressive opening sets, outscoring the
opposition by a 50-17 combined margin in the first sets on Aug. 25.
The Red Wolves went on to a 25-10, 14-25, 25-17, 25-19 victory against UNOH (3-1),
which beat No. 29 Georgetown on Aug. 24.
IU East won 25-7, 25-16, 25-18 against Spring Arbor (1-4).
IU East hosts Marian University at 7 p.m. on Aug. 28 at Seton Catholic High School.
