Brownstown Central defeats Columbus North 3-0 in volleyball

Columbus North High School BROWNSTOWN, Ind. -- Sophomore Janelle Peters recorded five kills and senior Quin Shoultz made a return to the lineup Thursday evening (Sept. 13), but neither was enough for the Columbus North volleyball team in a 3-0 setback at Class 3A No. 4 Brownstown Central.
Sophomore Makinsey Summa added three kills, while Shoultz had 11 assists and sophomore Alexa Pelley notched eight digs as the Bull Dogs dropped a 25-13, 25-13, 25-6 decision to fall to 3-11 for the season.
Shoultz, the team's lone senior, was back on court for the first time in two weeks after suffering an injury to her thumb.
The host Braves also won the JV and freshman matches in straight sets.
Freshman Avery Wendel had six kills and sophomore Taylor Stamper collected three aces as the JV fell 25-17, 25-19.
Olivia Teague notched four kills, while Rachel Copeland have five aces and Sydney Talkington had seven assists as the rookies dropped a 25-18, 25-11 decision. Copeland also contributed five digs.
All three teams are in action Saturday (Sept. 15). The varsity competes in the New Albany Invitational against New Albany, Jasper, Jeffersonville and a fourth opponent to be determined. The JV competes in the Roncalli Invitational, and the freshmen are in the Whiteland Invitational.
