Home » Boys' Tennis NewsNo. 13 Perry Meridian tops No. 14 Columbus North 4-1 in boys tennisSeptember 6, 2012 Columbus North High School INDIANAPOLIS -- Perry Meridian won all three singles spots in straight sets Thursday (Sept. 6), giving the No. 13 Falcons a 4-1 victory over No. 14 Columbus North.
The Bull Dogs dropped to 5-3 overall and 3-2 in Conference Indiana.
Brandon Benedict, Derek Benedict and Sam Osborne claimed singles wins for PM -- Brandon Benedict defeated Columbus North junior Luke Red 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1, Derek Benedict topped Bull Dog sophomore Anthony Sanders 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 and Osborne beat CN junior Krishan Narsinghani 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3.
The teams split the doubles matches.
Senior Ernest Xi and sophomore Mitchell Miller prevailed for Columbus North at No. 1 doubles. They beat Perry's Alex Kitchel and Doug Seals 6-4, 6-3.
The Falcons' Andrew Denning and Keegan Caughney won at No. 2 doubles, rallying for a 4-6, 7-5, 10-7 triumph over CN junior Kamal Maharjan and senior Pascal Lee.
"We knew going into this match that Perry Meridian would be a tough team to matchup with," CN coach Kendal Hammel said. "They have three solid singles players to compete against.
"We are still struggling at the 2 doubles spot. We had a lead with chance to win but were unable to put the opponent away."
The Columbus North JV won eight of 11 matches to improve its record to 8-0.
The Bull Dogs are back in action Saturday (Sept. 8) when they host the Columbus North Invitational. CN opens competition at 9 a.m. against Batesville. It follows with matches against Providence and Martinsville later in the day.
