Home » Quiz Bowl NewsMSHSAA Changes Quiz Bowl DistrictsJanuary 28, 2011 By Ryan Kennedy of Centralia High SchoolIn the fall, MSHSAA changed Academic Competition to Scholar Bowl. Then, they introduced a new question provider. In a season of changes, the District assignments kept up the pattern. Friday marked some significant changes in the Scholar Bowl districts, including Centralia’s district. Class 3, District 7 still features the Panthers, Hallsville, Fulton, North Callaway, and defending champion Southern Boone. However, gone are South Callaway, who drops to class two, and Boonville, who shifts to district eight. Joining the district are Mexico and Montgomery County. Mexico drops from class four, finally freeing them from a district that contained Rock Bridge and perennial powerhouse Kirksville. Since going 4-0 against the Bulldogs in 2008, the Panthers have lost four straight contests between the two schools. Montgomery County used to compete in C3D3 with Centralia, before the districts were expanded. They last faced Centralia in the semifinals of the 2008 C3D3 district tournament, which Centralia won. Montgomery County won C3D5 last year, but the shift to C3D7 presents a stiff challenge. MSHSAA changed to a 16-district format two years ago. The winners of C3D7 have finished in the top-four at the state tournament each of the last two seasons. The additions of Mexico and Montgomery County only serve to bolster one of the most, if not the most, competitive and quality districts in class three Scholar Bowl. District tournaments for Scholar Bowl take place April 9th, 2011. The C3D7 tournament will be hosted by Hallsville. The action kicks off at 2:00pm.
