Home » Football NewsBryan Starts on a WinAugust 27, 2011 By of Bryan High SchoolThe Bryan Golden Bears picked up win number one as they defeated the Van Wert Cougars in varsity football last night, 16-6. A major factor in the win was the 8 turnovers Bryan forced. Heading into the game, Coach Bob Priest of Van Wert told the GBSN, "It will be very important for us to have ball security and not turn it over."  The Bears took the lead on their first drive an 8-yard touchdown run from Colin Bacon that capped off a 5 play, 61 yard drive. Matt Chaney made the point after.  Late in the first quarter, something happened that Golden Bear fans haven't seen in a long time. Chaney came on after the Bears couldn't get the first down and kicked a 38-yard field goal to make the score 10-0 at the end of the first quarter.  Van Wert got on board in the second quarter as they took the ball 85-yards on 11 plays. It was 4th down play to get them on the board when Tyler Williams completed a pass to Terrance Branson for a 19-yard touchdown completion. With a missed extra point from Austin Reichert, the score was 10-6.  The Bears would answer with their final scoring drive with a beautiful 24-yard pass connection between Bacon and Schimmoeller. The 69-yard touchdown drive took 12 plays. The Bears then failed the 2-point conversion which kept the score at 16-6, which would be our final.  Passing (BHS)Bacon 9-22, 108 yards, 1 TD (VW)Williams 2-6, 30 yards, 1 TD  Rushing (BHS)Bacon 23 attemps, 146 yd, 1 TD (BHS)Eyre 8 att, 38 yd (BHS)Peters 1 att, 6 yd (VW)Williams 26 att, 158 yd (VW)Reichert 9 att, 33 yd (VW)Llyod 2att, -3yd  Receiving (BHS)Schimmoeller 3 rec, 48 yd, 1 TD (BHS)D.
