Lady Bears defeat Paulding in 5 sets

August 28, 2012
By Chris Malanga of Bryan High School

The Bryan Lady Bears Volleyball team defeated Paulding Monday night at Bryan High School. The final score was 22-25, 25-22, 24-26, 25-17, 15-7.

The Lady Bears got off to a slow start, up in each of the first three sets but only able to win set #2.  However, they came back to win the fourth and fifth sets to take the match.  Saturday's match at Napoleon also went to five sets.

"I told them (the team) let's not make a habit of this - unless we keep winning," said head coach Melanie Rinehart.

"I was very proud of our fourth and fifth game, that's how we've been playing," said Reinhart.  "Paulding took advantage in the first and third game.  It was a battle tonight, it was a good game," she added.

Net play by the Lady Bears was solid, especially in the fourth and fifth sets.  Danielle Gurwell was a big part of that success.

"Going in when we were struggling, I told everyone we needed to get it to her (Gurwell) and she would get us a kill some way, some how," said Rinehart.

Gurwell was named the GBSN/Bills' Locker Room III Player of the Game following the contest.

The Lady Bears travel to Montpelier tomorrow to face the Lady Locos.

The Bryan JV team was defeated by Paulding in two sets.
